Linsly Students Participate in Local Judicial Scholars Program

Linsly students Analise Baker (senior), Connor Phillips (junior), Madison Applegarth (junior), and Aiyana Delong (junior) have been participating in the local Judicial Scholars program. The program, originally established in 1999 by Linsly’s own Judge Frederick P. Stamp, includes 60 high school students from various local schools. The program teaches students through a series of educational experiences held throughout the year, and it introduces students to various aspects of the West Virginia court system. Students have had the opportunity to learn from many of the most influential and highest judicial officials in the state. The program includes speakers from all different areas of the state and all different areas of the judicial system. The students will have a couple more meetings throughout the year before a closing ceremony in May.

Coming from a participant, I believe that this program provides a great introduction to the legal system. The diversity of speakers allows students to explore the different available careers throughout law, and highlights that you do not have to be a lawyer to be involved. The possibilities are truly endless, and this program is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I highly recommend that younger students participate in the program when they are of age.
