Day In the Life of a Linsly Sophomore, Grace Norman

The Linsly Line is excited to highlight students from each grade and go through a day in their lives. Today, Grace Norman takes us on a day in her life. Grace is a sophomore at The Linsly School and is a part of the swim team! She has a busy day ahead, but does her best to balance her schedule.

Grace begins her day by waking up around 6:45am. Taking her dog outside and feeding her cat and dog are some of the things she does in the morning. Of course, she gets dressed into her uniform, brushes her teeth and hair, packs her bookbag, and heads to school. Grace arrives at school around 8:00am each day.

After stopping at her locker and talking with friends, Grace heads to advisor period at 8:20am. Today, 5th period was first, so she goes to Ms. Neff’s class for study hall. There, she worked on her source notecards for her research project in English. At 9:35, Grace heads to Algebra II, where she is learning how to factor multiple ways. Next up, Grace goes to her advisor for A-block. After advisor, she heads to English class for 7th period where Ms. Neff went over how to properly set up the source notecards for her research paper. She took a break for lunch, then went back to English to finish working on her notecards. After English, Grace goes to chemistry. In class, she did a fun maze about how to convert from moles to volume, mass, and items. Then, she worked on an experiment where she filled a balloon with baking soda and secured it to a bottle with vinegar, which caused the gas to make the balloon inflate. Finally, Grace went to US history for the last period of the day. She watched and took notes on a stage play about John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.

After school, Grace has practice for the Linsly swim team at 3:15, so she quickly heads down to the locker rooms to get ready. At swim, the team starts off with a five-minute dry land warm up to loosen up. She enjoys talking with her teammates while also getting ready to work hard in the pool. Mr. Merinar, the swim team’s head coach, explains the workout, then the team gets into the pool and begins swimming. Her practice consisted of drills, kicking, starts from the block, and a lot of freestyle and stroke sets.

Around 5:15, Grace finishes swim practice and heads home. She arrives at her house around 6pm, where she quickly eats dinner and goes straight to homework. Grace usually heads to bed from 10:30 to 11:00pm, but it depends on how much homework she has.

Overall, Grace had a very busy, productive day. Her favorite part is catching up with her friends after school!
