In November 2024, Spanish teacher Mrs. Coleman went on a trip to Mexico City through the Global Citizens Fellowship program. This program exercises leadership and implements awareness of current events, such as AI, global warming, and human rights. Although the program is selective and strenuous, Mrs. Coleman has only positive things to say about it.
While in Mexico City, she grew in her leadership abilities, collaborating with the group of women in her cohort, all of whom had different backgrounds and careers. Mrs. Coleman says that this cohort was empowering, and that the group provided a community to grow together within. Mrs. Coleman not only found value in the cohort, but in the overall experience in the city as well. She says that the diversity, history, and culture of the city was mind blowing, and that she could’ve stayed there for months! She also had the opportunity to visit an in-the-works architectural park and garden. The park has been in progress for over ten years, which speaks to the level of perfection it strives for. Through this, Ms. Coleman learned how different elements create a city, both agriculturally and industrially. She also believes that the incompleteness added to the beauty and serenity of the experience. Within the park, she was able to see the different layers of the city, both old and new, and even the active volcano in the distance. These were not the only interesting views she experienced.
Mrs. Coleman says that her favorite, most memorable views were from a serene boat ride, a path through the garden, and even from her hotel room.
Mrs. Coleman graduated in December, and still feels impacted by this experience. Overall, these views and experiences have left Mrs. Coleman with inspiration for her future at Linsly, and her leadership in and out of the classroom. The program has expanded her perspective on the world, and her interactions and connections with others. Congratulations, Mrs. Coleman, on graduating from this program!
