This February, the Linsly Line recognizes senior, Haylen Cook, and freshman, Brody Humphrey, as February’s Athlete’s of the Month.
Haylen Cook has been at Linsly since the 8th grade and has been an active part in the community by participating in many sports like soccer, cross country, track and field, and basketball. Specifically, in her time playing basketball, Haylen explains her favorite thing about playing is creating new friendships, opportunities, and memories. She has won many awards including the Elks Player of the Month, which Haylen expresses she is incredibly thankful to be recognized for. However, her biggest achievement is earning scholarship offers to play basketball at the collegiate level. Haylen plans to continue her career as a basketball player at Fairmont State University.

Haylen says “I am so grateful to get this opportunity and have my parents to thank for all they’ve sacrificed, my brother for always working out with me and playing 1v1, and my coaches, specifically Coach Upton, Coach Seabright, and Coach RJ, for coaching me throughout the years and helping me work toward my goals.”
Next, Brock Humphrey has been at Linsly since 6th grade and is finishing his 9th grade year at the school. He has wrestled 32 people with a record of 26-6. In his time in upper school, Brock won the OVACs Wrestling Championship in the 106 lb weight class, which played a major role in his team’s second place finish in their OVACs division. Brock also won at the WASZ, which is one of the biggest tournaments in the USA, and is the first Linsly wrestler to win in this tournament.

Brock says he wants to “thank the coaches and family who helped me with my wrestling career.”
Congratulations athletes, and good luck with the rest of your athletic and academic careers!
