Ciao, Europe! German Students Take a Trip During Spring Break

Last week, Linsly students enjoyed a well-deserved spring break. While many went somewhere sunny or simply relaxed at home, seven German students traveled to Europe with Ms. Bauer. These travelers included Olivia Rosenthal, Dylan Och, Rhiannon Jones, Aubrey Dunkin, Natasha Walsh, Luke Barack, and John Adamsky. By plane, bus, and boat, the group explored Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and a gas station in Austria.

On Saturday, March 1st, the group flew from Pittsburgh to Frankfurt and then drove to Heidelberg, Germany to start their adventure. A little jet lagged, the students explored the city and the castle that overlooks it. The next day in Heidelberg, they took a river cruise on the Rhine and observed the German countryside.

On their way to Munich, they stopped in Rothenburg, a walled city with cobblestone streets and charming architecture. While in Munich, the group observed Carnival, a tradition before Lent where people wear costumes and host festivals. They also went sightseeing around the city and saw the famous Glockenspiel and more historic architecture. Students jumped into German culture even more during their Bavarian dancing lesson! Before hopping countries, they trekked to both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, Neuschwanstein being the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle.

Driving through the Swiss Alps, the students got to enjoy the beautiful nature of Switzerland! The group went sightseeing in Lucerne and spent time at the Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument, and the Jesuit Church. Some decided to go to Mount Pilatus, a series of peaks overlooking the city at 7,000 feet. There, the group viewed the city and Lake Lucerne from above.

They then drove to Verona, Italy, where they saw Juliet’s balcony from Romeo and Juliet and the Verona Arena. After Verona, they traveled to Venice by boat. There, they visited a palace and wandered throughout the city and over its many bridges.

Over the trip, the students made memories and gained a new perspective that will last them a lifetime!
