On June 18th, members of Linsly’s upper school donated their time to serve at the Wheeling Soup Kitchen amidst the devastating flood that impacted the community. While there, the students took on preparing many dishes that would be later served for lunch. They were tasked with chopping up celery, potatoes, broccoli, and many other vegetables. Also in preparation for after lunch, they cut all of the sweet treats from pies to cakes. Once the doors opened, signaling it was time for lunch, the students served our community members. From preparing the food to seeing the full plates, the process brought so much joy not only to the guests, but to the students as well. Present in the kitchen, the students formed relationships with the staff too. They were engaged and asked questions on the tasks provided before them.
National Honor Society service committee chair, Elaina Pusz, says, “It’s really important that we continue to support our community outside of the regular school year, especially in times where individuals were struggling due to the flood. This was a great opportunity to get together to help out the community hands-on, and it was beautiful to see how the entire Wheeling community rallies together in challenging times like these.”
The National Honor Society along side of the rest of upper school can not wait to return to serve and create more memories with the community in the upcoming year!
