It is once again that time of year when the Linsly students, staff, and faculty work hard to prepare for the annual Spring Concert and Visual Art Show. This year, the night started off with a walk around the art building and then the performances of vocals, dancing, and band playing in the Field house. On Friday, May 9th, the Williams Visual Arts Center displayed dozens of beautiful art pieces varying from sculptures, photographs, and paintings, to ceramics. These pieces captured each person’s artistic side and passion for creating. Some of the pieces displayed were award winning works, such as Rhys Pool’s gigantic sea creature sculpture. Other pieces, like the photographs taken by students in Mrs. Van Scyoc’s upper school photography class, captured the beauty of Linsly’s campus as well as Oglebay. It was wonderful to see the year-long works from students ranging from fifth grade all the way up to the graduating class of 2025 come together through art to make it a night to remember.
For the second half of the night, students lit up the Field House and had everyone swaying to the beat and stomping their feet. The concert started off with a dance number to “Dynamite” that the middle school students performed. The concert carried on with the middle schoolers singing hit songs like “Mountain Music” and “I’m a Believer.” Also, students shared their passion and talent for music by presenting solo pieces on the piano. Furthermore, students in the upper and middle school band had the crowd moving to the songs they played such as “Jurassic Park,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “The Avengers.” There were a total of twenty five different pieces performed in the concert, all very enjoyable. The night concluded with refreshments and cookies presented by the hard working kitchen staff. Thank you to the Linsly students, the fine and performing arts department, and the kitchen staff for making the night one for the books.
