Day in the Life of 7th Grade Student, Vivian Metz!

This week, The Linsly Line is shining the spotlight on 7th grader, Vivian Metz, to give readers an inside look on a typical day in middle school. Vivian is new to Linsly this year and already enjoys being a member of the community. She loves playing volleyball, lacrosse, and hockey, spending time with her friends, and watching sports.

Vivian wakes up at 6:45 am to get ready for school. She gets dressed and packs up her backpack. By 7:00, she heads into the kitchen to make herself a smoothie – her favorite way to kick off the day! Around 7:10, she leaves for school with her mom, Nurse Metz, and older brother, Jon (Class of 2028).

Once at Linsly, she meets up with her friends by her locker before heading to science class right at 8:20. Currently, her class is working on wrapping up their research papers on genetics and personality traits, which they will soon present to the class.

Next, she’s off to pre-algebra with Mrs. Romanek. Most days, class involves a lesson and practice worksheets. Today, the class reviews their materials to prepare for their quiz tomorrow.

At 10:30, it’s time for a short break. Vivian goes to her advisory group, where she reconnects with her friends and chats with her advisor, Mr. Massey. It’s also a chance to finish any assignments or meet with a teacher for help if needed.

From there, Vivian walks down to the cafeteria for lunch! Today happens to be one of her favorite lunches, orange chicken! She eats with her friends and fuels her brain for the rest of the day.

At 11:45, she goes to pre-language class. Today’s class features a socratic discussion about The Odyssey, the novel they are reading both in and outside of class. These discussions allow for them to expand their interpretations and understand other literary and philosophical themes.

Following that, she has social studies class. They are currently learning about different U.S. presidents and how their leadership styles varied across historical periods.

Her final class of the day is chorus in the aerobics room. Vivian loves chorus because it’s a time in her day where she can relax and have fun with her friends. They are currently preparing for their spring concert coming up this Friday, May 9th.

At 3:00, the academic day ends and Vivian changes and heads to lacrosse practice with her team, Rebellion. She is the goalie for her team and loves the pressure of defending her team’s goal. If she doesn’t have a lot of homework, she also goes to the gym to get an extra workout in. For Vivian, being active is a way to clear her mind and relieve the stress of the school day.

When she gets home, she starts her homework and has dinner with her family. Today, they have steak and potatoes – a Metz family favorite!

Finally near the end of the night, she finishes up any more schoolwork and starts getting ready for bed. She says goodnight to her family and crawls into bed around 10:30 to get a full night’s rest and set herself up to have another great day tomorrow!

Overall, Vivian had an exciting day of learning, hanging out with friends, and being active! Thank you, Vivian, for sharing a glimpse of your life at Linsly!
