Day in the Life of 9th Grade Linsly Student, Lydia Dias

This week, Lydia Dias, a freshman at Linsly, goes through her day in the life as a Linsly student this past Monday. Lydia is very involved in Linsly athletics and participates in volleyball and basketball cheer. Outside of school, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, participating in club volleyball, and being involved in Young Life. She is the youngest of three siblings. In school, Lydia is a writer for the Linsly Line and is a class officer where she manages and oversees media publicity.

At 6:15 she rises on Monday morning to get ready for her day. After she dresses in her Monday uniform and packs her school bag, she makes a delicious breakfast consisting of eggs, toast, and fruit. After finishing up, she heads to school at 7:45.

She arrives at around 8:10 and catches up with her friends for a few minutes before her first class at 8:20, geometry with Mrs. Cooper.

In geometry, her class is currently learning trigonometry and had a quiz on trigonometric functions.

Lydia then heads to Biology with Dr. Edinger for an interesting lesson on the digestive system where they take notes and ask questions.

Then, she heads downstairs to the schoolwide Monday Morning Meeting. Once the meeting ends, she goes to her advisor in the Paul Gym for the remainder of the time before her next class. Her advisor is Mr. Seabright, and here she spends time with her friends, works on homework, and gets life advice. Sometimes, they also play games together in the gym such as volleyball or basketball.

Next up for Lydia is Spanish class with Mrs. Barrows, where they take notes and work on their fluency and pronunciation. To her excitement, they had some time at the end of class to begin their homework on forming sentences relating to locations and destinations.

She took off for lunch at 12:15 and got her favorite meal from the cafeteria, orange chicken! During this time, she hangs out with her friends and takes a rest from her academics.

At 12:45, she gets ready to head to English with Mrs. Ratkiewicz, where they are currently reading The Catcher in the Rye. Her class just finished up their research papers regarding mental health and are moving into studying poetry for declamation. This is Lydia’s favorite class!

Lydia states, “I like English because you get to give your reflections and opinions on literature topics. Also, class is always a fun, light-hearted, and welcoming environment!”

Then Lydia heads to her final class of the day with Mr. Wallace, world history. This is always a lively class for her. Today, they had a debate and discussion relating to their current unit of World War 1.

After her day at school concluded at 3:00, she and her friends decided to stick around to cheer on the Linsly baseball team at their home game! She loves to support Linsly in their athletics and finds pride in being a part of the Linsly community!

Lydia leaves the game early to head to her club volleyball practice at the Highlands Sports Complex. Before practice, she changes into her practice uniform and picks up a quick dinner from her favorite fast food place, Chick-fil-A. She makes it to practice ten minutes early at 5:20 to warm up and stretch. They had a high-intensity practice until 7:00pm, where after, Lydia headed home.

To wind down after a long day, she and her mom usually watch true crime documentaries in the living room for the remainder of the night. Lydia finishes up any remaining homework and catches up with her family during this time.

Then, she wraps up at 10pm and heads to her room to get ready for bed and prepare for the next day!

All in all, Lydia had a very eventful day and went to bed feeling accomplished! She had a great day filled with learning new things, supporting her school, training for volleyball, and spending valuable time with her friends and family!
