This week, the Linsly Line shines the spotlight on one of the newest Cadets, Jaxson Baker, who is a member of the fifth grade.
Jaxson starts his day at 6:30 A.M. and proceeds to check his emails, pack his bag, and get dressed. After eating some breakfast and watching television, he and his sister drive to school at 7:30.
He gets to school around 8 o’clock and goes inside to see his friends before heading to the first class, Language Arts with Mrs. Loudermilk. In language arts, he does a lot of activities such as works on grammar, has independent reading time, practices his spelling, and is currently memorizing his declamation.
At 9:25, Jaxson walks to math class with Mrs. Romanek. Currently, the class is learning about converting customary units of measurement and bettering their quick math skills.
STEAM class is up next for Jaxson at 10:30, which is one of the newer programs Linsly has instilled. Right now, Jaxson is working very hard on his portfolios which he will have to present at the end of the year to his parents and teachers. In STEAM they also take breaks from their hard work and do fun activities like making origami and mummified apples.
At 11:10, Jaxson goes to middle school lunch for his favorite meal at Linsly, hamburgers! During lunch, Jaxson enjoys talking to his friends about the school day or about practice after school.
Jaxson heads to Mrs. Welch’s room to learn Spanish at 11:45. Right now, they are learning how to say different fruits and vegetables. Another interesting thing Mrs. Welch teaches about is the history and cultures of different Spanish speaking countries.
Next up is Health/Gym at 12:55 p.m. While most days Jaxson has gym class, once a week his class will meet for health where they learn about the D.A.R.E program. D.A.R.E is taught to fifth graders every year and teaches children the importance of saying no to drugs and alcohol. In gym class today, Jaxson and his class are going to play mat ball, which is one of his new favorite games to play.
Social studies is next with Mr. Massey next at 1:55. Jaxson and his class are currently doing a virtual field trip to all the countries in Latin America like Mexico and Guatemala!
At 3:00, Jaxson walks down to the Paul Gym and gets ready for middle school swim. Jaxson has swim practice Monday-Friday from 3:15-5:00. In practice, Jaxson spends his time working on his swimming and form, while trying to build more stamina and speed.
After practice, Jaxson goes home and does his homework he was given throughout the day. His family has dinner together and some days he also has other activities like strings rehearsal, YMCA swim practice, and performance training for swimming. If he has a free night, he likes to spend time with his dogs, watch tv, or play Fortnite.
Before bed, he makes sure all of his things are ready for the next morning for school. Jaxson ends his day around 9:30 to make sure he is well rested for the next day!
Overall, Jaxson had a fun-filled day full of learning, doing extracurricular activities, and spending time with his friends and family!
