Athletes of the Month: January

This month, the Linsly Line recognizes two outstanding athletes for the month of January: Brody Cottrill and Jasmine Lourenço.

Brody is a senior at Linsly and has attended since his sophomore year. He has wrestled for over fourteen years and started wrestling at Linsly his junior year, due to an injury he sustained the year prior. Not only does Brody wrestle, but he plays for Linsly’s varsity football team as well as boxes. Throughout his Linsly wrestling career, he has achieved over 100 career wins, which is a huge accomplishment for the senior. Furthermore, he placed fourth this year in the wrestling OVACs, contributing to the 2nd place finish for Linsly in their division.

Brody shares his favorite part about wrestling, stating, “The sport taught me to fight mental and physical struggles constantly, meanwhile succeeding and persevering.”

Congratulations, Brody!

Senior swimmer, Jasmine Lourenço, is new to Linsly this year, but has made a profound impact on this year’s swim team. She has been swimming for over twelve years, starting the sport at the age of six in her home country of Angola. Over Linsly’s swim season, Jasmine has obtained many first place finishes; specifically, she won four events in the Big Red Invitational Meet, being the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Medley Relay, and 200 Freestyle Relay. Most notably, Jasmine won two first place medals in the OVACs swim meet for the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, being an important factor in the team’s first place finish for the small school division. Furthermore, in July of 2024, Jasmine was named the Absolute National Champion for the 50 freestyle with a time of 29.34, in Luanda-Angola. Lastly, she also competed in the Junior World Championship in 2023 in Israel. Jasmine’s favorite part about the sport is meeting new people, making friends, and supporting her teammates.

Jasmine expresses her motivation for the sport, saying, “My dream is to go to the Olympic Games.”

Congratulations, Jasmine!

Both student-athletes have made important strides for Linsly athletics; this accomplishment is well-deserved!
