Last Saturday, October 12, the boys and girls cross country team battled at their last meet of the season, the Ohio Valley Cross Country Championship meet, at Buckeye Local. The senior runners were honored, and many students, teachers, and friends came out to support the team. It was an energizing atmosphere.
Varsity girls competed first with a great effort from all team members. They came in with the mindset that they had nothing to lose, and almost all the girls finished with either a personal best or season best. Senior Ilayna Murray placed 24th with a personal best of 22:12, and she will continue her running career at Gannon University next fall.
The boys competed next with outstanding performances across the board and earned first place at the meet. Both Jakob Schmidt-Weigand and Micah Kramer crushed the previous boys record of 16:44. Jakob now holds the new record with a time of 16:24! Jakob placed 3rd, Micah placed 4th, and Darrian Bertram placed 7th.
Lastly middle school girls had a great race with Teanna Galberth placing 5th overall, Brynn Heller placing 20th, and London Mistovich placing 30th!
The team would like to thank all the fans who came out on Saturday morning. The seniors were able to finish off their season with a memorable environment. Overall this season, both teams grew as individual runners and as a team. Not only did they get faster, but they became more confident, resilient, and self-disciplined. Lastly, the team would like to wish good luck to all the seniors on their future endeavors!
