Parents Day and What to Expect?

Parents Day and What to Expect?

Parents’ Day at Linsly, set for Monday, October 14, 2024, offers a glimpse into a typical school day. Parents are invited to accompany their children, experiencing classes and activities alongside them. This event allows parents to better understand their child’s daily routine and engage with teachers and staff.

The day starts with registration and folder pick-up between 7:30 and 8:15 AM at the front of Banes Hall (or in the Banes Lobby in case of inclement weather). During this time, coffee, juice, water, fruit, and pastries will be available in the cafeteria until 8:00 AM, providing a welcoming start for parents and students.

From 8:20 to 8:40 AM, division meetings take place. Middle School students and parents will gather in the library, while Upper School students and their parents will meet in the cafeteria. These meetings offer insights into the day’s plans and provide an opportunity for parents to connect with the school community.

The school day officially begins with classes starting at 8:45 AM. Parents will join their child for shortened versions of regular classes, beginning with Period 1 from 8:45 to 9:15 AM, followed by Period 2 from 9:20 to 9:50 AM. This session allows parents to observe their child’s learning environment and engage with the material being taught.

A check-in session with the child’s advisor is scheduled from 9:55 to 10:15 AM. This period allows parents to see the role of advisory time in supporting their child’s academic and social growth. It also provides a space for parents to discuss any questions or concerns with their child’s advisor.

Following the advisor session, parents can join their child for Period 3 from 10:20 to 10:50 AM, followed by Period 4 from 10:55 to 11:25 AM. These sessions continue the classroom experience, allowing parents to see a range of subjects and teaching styles.

A free lunch is provided for all students and parents from 11:30 AM to 12:55 PM. Parents and students have the opportunity to enjoy a meal together during this time, with seating available in the cafeteria and outside Banes Hall.

After lunch, classes resume with Period 6 from 1:00 to 1:30 PM and Period 7 from 1:35 to 2:05 PM. These final periods offer parents a comprehensive view of their child’s afternoon schedule, rounding out their experience of a typical school day.

The day concludes with open-door conversations with teachers from 2:10 to 3:00 PM, providing an opportunity for parents to ask questions, discuss their child’s progress, or schedule individual meetings. Simultaneously, a Senior Parent College Counseling Meeting will take place in the library, offering guidance on the college application process for parents of seniors.

Overall, Parents’ Day at Linsly provides a valuable opportunity for parents to immerse themselves in their child’s school life, fostering a deeper understanding of the learning environment and strengthening the connection between home and school.
