Sprinting Through the Start of Track Season

The boy’s and girl’s track season kicked off this past Wednesday in Martins Ferry with varsity relays, followed by the 69th Annual Bellaire Relays in Shadyside on Saturday. 

In the Bellaire Relays, Katerina Spanos placed 9th in 400M with a time of 1:09:38. The girl’s team placed 5th in the 4×1 shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:18:01. The team also finished 6th in the 4×4, 7th in the 4×2, and 7th in the 4×8 relay. Haylen Cook placed 4th in the high jump, and Elle Rainey placed 2nd in Shot Put. 

The boys team also finished strong with Malte Feil placing 5th in the 100M dash with a time of 11:56 and 3rd in the 200M with a time of 23.67. In the 400M, Jakob Schmidt-Weigand placed 4th and Gavin Spadafore placed 8th. The relay team placed 1st in the 4×110 and 2nd in the 4×200 shuttle hurdle relay. Additionally, Ramello Derr placed 1st and Will Taylor placed 2nd in the long jump. Jamie Riedel placed 4th in discus. 

Colby Gibbons was awarded the high point award for track, scoring the most points of any track athlete on Saturday! He placed 2nd in the 110M hurdles, 1st in the 300M hurdles, 1st in the shuttle hurdle relay, and 2nd in the 4×200 meter relay. 

Overall, the teams did great, and their hard work paid off. The next meet is on Tuesday, April 9th in Shadyside, so make sure to show some support!
