A few Thursdays ago, on November 30th, The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra held their annual event, Symphony on Ice. This performance brings in local and professional figure skaters to entertain the audience. John Devlin, the conductor, starts off the show with We Three Kings to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. Middle and high school choirs from the area come in to accompany some of the songs.
This year, six students of The Linsly School skated in the show including Aubrey Dunkin, Sydney Burke, Sophia Tsikouris, Danica Stoffer, Londyn Mistovich, and Gwyneth Gaiser. The skaters practiced September through November to put together one of a kind performances that the whole crowd loves. Linsly Students skated in March of the Toys, Christmas Time is Here, Christmas Eve (Sarajevo), and Silent Night. Sydney Burke has been skating for 13 years, 11 of those skating in Symphony on Ice. She says that “Symphony on Ice is a great experience and I love performing with my friends”. There are also many Linsly Students who volunteer for the event, setting up, welcoming, serving, and cleaning up. Linsly’s Riley Maroney, Katherine Carson, Brooklynn Wayt, Maddie Taylor, Avery Gilman, Emily Klempa, Alyssa Tomlinson, Anna Norman, Tommy Turak, Jack Selmon, Brady Childers, Andrew Skadra, and Cole Bloomfield all are part of this year’s Cotillion and helped out by selling raffle tickets. Symphony on Ice is a great way to kick off the holiday season and students look forward to it for years to come.
