Leah Pfister is a sophomore here at The Linsly School. She is a proud member of Linsly’s volleyball team and has worked incredibly hard this season. Leah has been playing volleyball for five years, debuting as a sixth grader on the middle school team. In addition to the volleyball program at Linsly, Leah also plays for the Ohio Valley Volleyball Association, and has been playing for this association for three years.
Leah is highly experienced in volleyball, as she has played it for a total of eight seasons. Since she has been playing volleyball for quite a few years, I asked her how she has trained in preparation for each volleyball season. She replied that she attends the preseason practices during the summer that Linsly holds, intently practices various drills, and during winter and spring, she competes around the valley with her club volleyball team.
I also asked Leah about what volleyball has taught her about teamwork. She states “if your teammate is having the worst day ever, it is your job not only as a teammate but as their friend to support them. Not only emotionally, but also physically having their back.” She also adds that if you make a mistake, your teammates will always be there for you and lift you up.
On the topic of teamwork, I asked Leah how she motivates her teammates during an intense game, and she replied that she always tries to give them high-fives or cheer for them. Her positivity and optimism during the games undoubtedly boosts her teammates morale.
Leah not only focuses on having her fellow teammates backs, but she also focuses on her own personal goals as a player. She informed me that one of her goals for this season was to get one block each game and to improve her hitting and serving ability, and she has achieved those goals by continuously practicing and having a sense of determination. Congrats to Leah and all of the other Linsly volleyball players on a great season!
