On November 30, 2021, many Linsly students came into school with a giving heart. The day revolved around students and teachers giving back to both the local community and the Linsly community. Since 2015, it has been a Linsly tradition to participate in the annual holiday that comes the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, known as Giving Tuesday. For Giving Tuesday this year at Linsly, students donated a minimum of $2 to participate in a schoolwide dress-down day. The donations received were all gifted back to Linsly as a way for the students to say “Thank You.”
Linsly faculty member and main organizer for Giving Tuesday, Ms. Ridenhour, stated, “At Linsly, specifically, Giving Tuesday marks the beginning of our calendar year-end giving campaign. Because Linsly is an independent school, we receive very limited financial support from our state and federal government and must rely on fundraising and donations to provide additional support to our school that tuition dollars do not cover. As Giving Tuesday gets a lot of attention nationally, it is a great way for Linsly to draw attention to year-end giving.”
The highest Giving Tuesday donation prior to this year was $2,054.96. Ms. Ridenhour, Mrs. Leone, and others helped set the schoolwide goal to surpass this donation amount for the 2021 Giving Tuesday. The students of Linsly came together to raise more money in donations than they ever have before on this special day, $3,147.12. As promised, Linsly students earned an all school ice cream sundae bar for reaching the set goal.
Also on Giving Tuesday, students brought in canned goods to contribute to Linsly’s canned food drive, which has been going on for the entire month of November. Every canned good that has been brought to Linsly over the past month will be donated to those in need within our local community. As a way of recognizing those who donated canned goods, everyone was entered into a raffle for each canned item that they brought. Three Linsly students, Olivia Kiger-Camilo, Emily Klempa, Rocco D’Aquila, and one staff member, Mrs. Baker, were awarded Tim Hortons gift cards for their names being drawn in the raffle.
Not only are Linsly students grateful for this wonderful school and the opportunities, relationships, and experiences that it provides, Linsly is also grateful for its community and the constant support that it receives from the people within it. “I think Linsly will continue participating in Giving Tuesday. Whether our student donations continue to grow or not, I’m most excited about our students participating.”, Ridenhour stated, as she looks forward to Linsly’s participation in future Giving Tuesdays.
