This Wednesday, Linsly’s Spanish Club and teacher Mrs. Courtnie Barrows held a fiesta to celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos. Observed on November 1st and 2nd in Mexico along with many other Spanish speaking countries, the holiday honors loved ones who have passed away through offerings, parades, graveside vigils, feasts, etc., though traditions vary depending on which country the holiday is observed in.
The Linsly Spanish Club, which has over 50 members, celebrated with a potluck lunch on November 3rd. The party was organized by Mrs. Barrows and the Spanish V class, which includes current co-presidents of the Spanish Club, Gailya Dodd and Riley Camps (pictured above).
Many students contributed to bringing food, resulting in a wide variety of traditional Día de los Muertos food, Hispanic foods, and American (U.S.) food. Dishes included tacos, tres leches cake, chips with salsa and queso, and pan de muerto (bread of the dead).
Students came during their respective lunch periods to enjoy the food, music, and decorations. Linsly’s Spanish Club and Mrs. Barrows’ Spanish classes had a great time at the fiesta and are looking forward to future club activities!
