On April 28th and 29th, the girls varsity tennis team competed in the OVAC tournament, where they won their 10th straight first place title in the 1A-4A division and 15th overall OVAC championship in school history. Overall the team did very well, allowing us to accumulate 18 points in the overall ranking. Rachel Ekanem and Kateryna Bondarchuk were the #1 doubles champions after beating the team from University High School and our #2 doubles team of Lily George and Charlie Allison made it to the semifinals which put us in the lead for the 1A-4A division on the first day. On Thursday, we closed out the tournament with Rachel Ekanem becoming the #1 singles champion against Wheeling Central, Charlie Allison becoming the #3 singles champion against Morgantown High School, and Lily George making it to semifinals at #4 singles. The Head Coach, David W. Riethmiller, notes the team has been a real pleasure to coach and that he is very pleased with their accomplishments and progress as they overcame a lack of experience entering the season. The team closed out the year after a series of undefeated wins in regular season matches this past week.
