Senior Madison Doughty in The Spotlight

Madison Doughty is from Yorkville, Ohio, and she has been attending Linsly since her freshman year. For all four years of high school, Maddie was a member of the varsity cheerleading team for football and basketball season and the OVAC competition team, winning an OVAC title at the annual competition in both 2019 and 2020. Aside from cheerleading, Maddie is a four-year member of the French Club, two-year member of the Bible Study Club, and two-year member of Minding Your Mind, a club she started on her own that focuses on mental health and bettering the community. Maddie is a member of the National Honors Society and French National Honors Society. Special awards she has received include: the Most Dedicated Award her freshman year and the Coaches’ Award her junior year both for cheerleading. Her favorite Linsly memory is winning the AAA Division at the OVAC Cheerleading Competition back to back years alongside her best friends.

Maddie’s volunteer work throughout high school is excellent, and she is involved with many different organizations. She volunteered with Shooting Stars where she helped disabled children in a basketball league and “run down the court with them.” She also volunteered with Miracle League, teaching disabled children “the basics of cheerleading and [coaching] them while they cheered on their team.” Additionally, Maddie worked with the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia and “babysat foster children while their foster parents were in their monthly meeting.” At St. Joseph Church, Maddie is an alter server, a helper with Vacation Bible School, and a volunteer for their annual spaghetti dinner.

An important Linsly mentor to Maddie is Mr. Plumby because he has always shown care and interest in his students. Maddie says:

“He always has a positive attitude and outlook on life that makes you want to strive to be a better person.”

Maddie plans to attend The Ohio State University, majoring in speech pathology and minoring in business. Her advice to younger Linsly students is to use your time wisely to complete your assignments and to “never take time for granted.” She adds that “Linsly taught me it is okay to fail sometimes … you just have to have the determination to get up and try again.” Madison says:

“Without managing your time it is impossible to get everything done in a timely manner. Dividing out the work load will make it a lot easier on yourself and helps you stay on top of things.”
