If you’ve spent any time on the course this season, you’ve probably seen Landen Cook putting in work. The senior golfer has been a steady presence for the team, earning him August’ s Athlete of the Month.
He has the best average on the team with a 77 for 18 holes. He has been medalist multiple times including winning the St. Mary’s Invitational with over 12 teams and 80 golfers. He also earned all tournament honors at the Fort Frye invitational with a top 5 finish!
For Landen, golf is as much about the environment as it is about the score.
“I like golf because it’s a fun time to have with my friends,” Cook said. “It’s challenging, and rewarding when you perform well.”
That effort has paid off throughout his high school career, and he points straight to his head coach when talking about his progress on the course.
“Coach Seabright is the greatest coach ever,” Landen said. “He inspires me to work hard and has helped me grow tremendously in golf throughout high school.”
Likewise, Coach Seabright has nothing but compliments for Cook.
“His work ethic has been extremely impressive over the years. He has put in a lot of hard work and long days over the last 2 years, and it shows in his results. He is a completely different player from freshman to senior year. He goes to the course almost daily to work on his game, and that is one of the many reasons he has seen so many good results. His work ethic is going to be one of the reasons he will have opportunities to play in college!”
Even though golf is the only sport Landen plays, he’s far from a one-sport presence around school. When he isn’t playing, he’s usually out supporting other teams and making noise in the student section.
When Coach Seabright is asked about coaching Cook, he says: “I have enjoyed these last few years very much having Landen be a part of the program. He is always able to keep the mood light, but understands the importance of what it means to grind at practice/matches. There is no give up in him. He will battle until he holes his last putt, and that is somebody you always want on your team. He has been an integral part of the Linsly golf program, and somebody that I talk about to our future golfers coming up through the JV/Middle school.”
Looking ahead, Landen plans to study business in college and keep his golf career going at the next level, though he’s still deciding on where he’ll end up.
Congrats to Landen Cook on this great season—we’re excited to see where you play next!
