On Saturday, January 18th, the Linsly swim team traveled to Brooke High School to compete in the OVAC’s meet. The boys and girls swim teams secured their title once again! This is the third year in a row where both teams have been the reigning champions, which is an outstanding accomplishment. The swimmers competed in the 1A-3A Class where they defeated their competitors in the division.
There were many first place finishes for the individual swimmers, which accounted for the team’s victory. The men’s 200 medley relay had a first place finish. The swimmers in the event were Pablo Hernandez, Sebastian Jayakumar, Cassio Bendenelli, and Rocco D’Aquilla. Maral Batsanal won the women’s 200 freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. The men’s 200 and 500 meter freestyle was won by Pablo Hernandez. Jasmine Lourenco finished first with a time of 26.63 seconds in the women’s 50 freestyle. She also placed first in the 100 meter freestyle. The men’s 50 freestyle was won by Riccardo Piccini with a time of 21.88 seconds. He finished first in the 100 freestyle, too. Cassio Bendenelli won the men’s 100 meter butterfly. Greta Temporin, Grace Norman, Jasmine Lourenco, and Maral Bastsanal won the women’s 200 freestyle relay. The boys, Cassio Bendenelli, Sebastian Jayakumar, Rocco D’Aquila, and Riccardo Piccini, took home the victory for the 200 men’s freestyle relay. Lastly, Riccardo Piccini, Carlin Wong, Jalen Wong, and Pablo Hernandez took home the victory for the men’s 400 meter freestyle relay.
The swimmers, collectively, had an amazing season full of hard work that led them to winning OVACs. Addison, a three time swim letterman, says, “Competing against truly talented swimmers in the Ohio Valley is always a great experience. It is amazing how much talent there is in OVACs. Many of us walked away with personal records because the competition pushed us to swim our best. I am so proud of this team.”
