This November, The Linsly Line would like to recognize two stand-out athletes: Laura Carbonell and Ramello Derr.
Our female athlete of the month, Laura Carbonell, is a junior at the Linsly School from Castellon, Spain. She was named the 3A OVAC Volleyball Player of the Year, as well as the OVAC All-Conference team. She has been playing the outside position for 5 years. Laura’s favorite memories from this season were beating Martin’s Ferry and getting into the OVAC finals, and spreading time with her teammates on all of their bus rides together. When asked what keeps her motivated throughout the season, Laura mentions, “Getting to be a professional player, as this sport is what I most enjoy doing and makes me happy.”
Our male athlete of the month, Ramello Derr, was awarded the Offensive Player of the Year award by his coaches this football season. He is a senior at the Linsly School and has played football since he was seven years old. Ramello’s favorite memory from his football career was winning against Steubenville his sophomore year. Ramello explains, “I love football so much. It brings me so much joy.” Ramello’s coaches say he’s an outstanding wide receiver, as well as one of the best receivers the school has seen.
