Linsly hosted the Alumni Reunion Weekend on the same weekend as Linsly’s homecoming. The Alumni Panel was hosted on Friday, the 25th, at the end of the school day in the cafeteria. This panel was a chance for students to hear from alumni who have graduated from Linsly and went on to do meaningful things with their lives. The speakers at this panel (pictured from left to right) were Dr. George Sokos, Jason Cooper, Emily Shortall, Justine Reed, and Paul Vargo. The upper school students were able to sit and listen to these speakers discuss their time at Linsly and how Linsly helped them succeed and persevere in their lives.
For the Alumni Spotlight, one of the recent speakers, Emily Shortall shared more about her story. Mrs. Shortall’s journey at Linsly began in 5th grade, as one of the first female students at this institution. She was a part of the first female sports team as well. These transitions and experiences at Linsly taught her resilience and confidence, which helped shape her into who she is today. Currently, she is the President of the Property Management Division at Harvey Goodman Realtor. Her grandfather founded this company in 1956. This gave her the chance to work alongside her family and she values that opportunity every day. Her inspiration to work at Harvey Goodman Realtor came from her desire to provide the Ohio Valley community with high-quality housing and workspaces that would help her clients thrive.
Mrs. Shortall advises Linsly students, “Embrace every challenge as an opportunity to grow, and don’t be afraid to pave your own path. The best way to predict your future is to create it. Opportunities may not always be obvious—you often have to create them.”
Linsly would like to thank the alumni who spoke to the students and attended the reunion. Another significant thank you goes to Emily Shortall for sharing her story and advice to The Linsly School.
