Last Wednesday, members of the National Honors Society on the service committee traveled to a local soup kitchen to volunteer for Family Night. Family Night takes place every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 at The Soup Kitchen. There, students brought coloring sheets, played games with the kids, and served food. After The Soup Kitchen closed, students helped clean up for the night.
Volunteering for the Soup Kitchen has been a part of Linsly’s National Honors Society for years. Service is one of the four pillars of the NHS, and students find it important to give back to their community.
Rocco D’Aquila, an officer of NHS, explains how volunteering at the soup kitchen impacts the community, “While the concrete act of serving food and entertaining families provides an immediate impact on those who visit the soup kitchen, it also provides a lasting impact on the entire community. It shows the workers, visitors of the soup kitchen, and the rest of the community that we care about them and are willing to help others.”
The National Honors Society’s service committee plans to return to the soup kitchen for Family Night on November 6th, as well as in months to follow.
Thank you to the NHS service committee members as well as Mrs. Zatezalo, the National Honors Society advisor, for volunteering at the soup kitchen last week.
