This past week, several of Linsly’s athletic teams came together to honor Linsly sophomore English teacher, Mrs. Ratkiewicz. Mrs. Ratkiewicz is currently fighting Breast Cancer, and the Linsly community is working to support her every step of the way.
On Wednesday night, the volleyball team all wore pink jerseys to show their support. In addition, the team held a bake sale at the game that included a variety of home baked sweets and treats, and also sold pink ribbons and bracelets at school. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser are going directly to Mrs. Ratkiewicz, and will help her cover the costs of her treatments.
Another athletic event was held on Thursday night at Wheeling Island Stadium, where both the Linsly boys and girls soccer teams faced Wheeling Park. To show their support for Breast Cancer awareness, each team played in pink jerseys and the Linsly student section held a “Pink Out” theme. To further their support, both the Linsly and Wheeling Park teams presented Mrs. Ratkiewicz with beautiful flowers.
On Friday, a pink dress down day was held at school, and all students were asked to dress up in their best pink attire. The cross country team collected donations at the beginning of the school day, and the Middle School Leadership Council sold pink “L” decals for cars. The students lit up the school pink!
To end the week, on Saturday morning, the boys and girls cross country team wore pink shirts to their OVAC race. They also made a collection of creative signs, with phrases such as “Fight Like a Girl” and “I Pink I Can” to honor Mrs. R.
Overall, “Think Pink” week at Linsly was a great success, and it was amazing to see the Linsly community come together to support this important cause and offer compassion and encouragement to Mrs. Ratkiewicz.
