The sound of spikes hitting the ground reverberates into the crowd, as their cries deafen the runners. There’s no messing around. It’s cross-country season.
Months before the season began, Linsly’s cross country team had been training tirelessly for the most important meet of the year: OVAC’S. Each day, our runners shed their blood, sweat, and tears, striving to do whatever it took to go the distance. With 11 meets completed, and OVAC’S this weekend, preparations have been long and tedious for the race that will determine the success of their season.
Last weekend, the team traveled to Cambridge, Ohio, for the Charlie Fondale Memorial meet. They didn’t come just to enjoy the 50ยบ weather, but to preview the championship trail they will run this Saturday, October 8th. The course, splattered in the backyard of Cambridge High School, is grassy, fast-paced, and with a final windy hill, strategically placed meters before the finish line. Rain or shine, melting or freezing, our runners will race, braced for anything.
Cross Country Coaches, Mrs. Crissy D’Aquila and Mr. Nate Cumberworth, look forward to seeing how the team performs this weekend. “It’s been a long few months of training, and we’re hoping that it will pay off as we fight for the 3A Title,” remarked Coach D’Aquila.
Co-Team Captain, Katie Kastelic, although out for the season, is also confident in the team’s abilities. “The team has persevered through many challenges this season. From bad weather to injuries, nothing was able to stop them. This Saturday, all the hard work and training will come together to result in a great race.”

And with most schools in the Ohio Valley fighting for this spot, it is sure to be an interesting event. But no matter what OVACs throw their way, we are certain our Linsly runners are more than capable to go the extra mile. Go, Cadets!
