Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Joy Van Scyoc

Mrs. Joy Van Scyoc is the new art teacher at Linsly this year. She chose to teach at Linsly because she values similar things as the school, such as character development and academic achievement.

Mrs. V states:

We live in a very unpredictable world, and I believe this approach enables students to succeed in the future.

So far, Mrs. V has enjoyed her time here at Linsly. She loves the many opportunities made available to collaborate with her co-workers. One of the many things that she loves about Linsly is the family feel the boarding school provides. Mrs. V has seen how much her co-workers care about their students. She also loves the school spirit that every student has, whether it be in the classroom, extracurricular activities, or at athletic events. Mrs. Joy Van Scyoc loves to work with students who are discovering their talents in art. She also loves the positive environment in her classrooms and throughout the school. After graduating from college, Mrs. V was a director of an agency that supplied students in a learning environment with therapeutic staff support. She has also taught grades six through twelve art and STEAM classes throughout both Pennsylvania and West Virginia since 1999.

Mrs. Van Scyoc enjoys creating art just as much as she loves teaching it. Her favorite type of art is photography, with her favorite subject to photograph being wildlife. During the fall, Mrs. V travels to Pennsylvania to photograph elk. Along with photography, she also takes pleasure in acrylic and watercolor painting. In her free time, Mrs. V loves to listen to live music, cook, attend sporting events, and go camping. Her favorite foods are steak, seafood, and spicy foods.
