Staff’s Choice: Our Favorite Holiday Cookie Recipes

SUGAR COOKIES

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Christmas, or just for fun, these sugar cookies allow you to create any shape you want for the occasion!

Ingredients :

1 1/2 cup of sifted confectioners sugar

1 cup butter

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring

2 1/2 cup flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions:

-Mix sugar and butter

-Add egg and flavorings

-Add flour

-Stir in dry ingredients

-Refrigerate 2-3 hours

-After refrigeration roll out dough to be a little less than 1/4 of an inch. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters. Gather dough and repeat the process until dough has run out. Bake cookies at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 7-8 minutes. Put icing on your cookies or decorate them as desired. Enjoy!

JELL-O COOKIES

This recipe utilizes Jell-O mix to create a flavorful cookie with a great texture! These colorful desserts can be made to fit an holiday celebration, with color options ranging from red, pink, or even to green being available! The red and green cookies above are made with raspberry and lime Jell-O mixes.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (reserve extra flour for dividing dough)

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

8 tablespoons Jell-O mix of choice (4 tablespoons per section for 2 colors, 2 tablespoons per section for four colors, etc. For 8 tablespoons, you will need a six ounce box of Jell-O mix)

Directions:

-Cream together butter and sugar, then add the egg and vanilla extract

-In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cream of tartar, then gradually combine this mixture with the wet ingredients

-Divide the dough into sections corresponding to the desired number of colors/flavors, and then knead in the Jell-O mix until it is fully integrated into the dough

-Roll dough into 1-inch spheres and coat with sugar or excess Jell-O mix before flattening and placing the cookies two inches apart from each other on a baking sheet

-Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, then let cool on a wire rack
