Linsly’s 2021 Homecoming Court: Queen Selection and Parade

The Linsly 2021 Homecoming Queen was announced this past Friday, October 22, at the pep rally. Each girl was handed a rose, and the white rose represented the Homecoming Queen. Juanita Garcia, who is the head prefect at Linsly, unwrapped her rose to find it was white. She was crowned by last year’s queen, Lourdes Giovengo. 

Mara Carlisle

Mara Carlisle is the daughter of Dr. David and Mrs. Rebecca Carlisle. Her sister Morgan and her brother Evan are Linsly graduates, and her brother Ethan currently attends Linsly as a sophomore. Carlisle has attended Linsly since the fifth grade. She has been a part of the French Club since freshman year and is currently the secretary. She has played travel hockey at South Pittsburgh Rebellion Hockey Club since she was five years old and has been captain for the past two years. Since the tenth grade, Carlisle has participated and lettered in Linsly hockey.  She was a part of the Linsly 2021 OVAC champion girls track team, getting gold with her relay team as well as in the open 100-meter hurdles.  She hopes to continue with hockey and track in college. Carlisle was escorted by her parents, David and Rebecca. 

Danyelle Dunlevy

Danyelle Dunlevy is the daughter of Ryan and Patty Dunlevy of Wheeling, West Virginia. Her brother, Dylan, is a 2021 graduate. Dunlevy has been a Junior & Senior prefect, where she serves as co-head of the Community Service Committee. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and French National Honor Society, SADD club, and French Club and has been the Secretary/Treasurer of her class for the last three years. Dunlevy has enjoyed her years of being a varsity member of the Linsly volleyball, softball & track teams, as well as a figure skater, performer and coach for the Wheeling Figure Skating Club. She is a volunteer and active member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church and serves as a Senior leader of the Greek Orthodox Youth Association. She has also been a volunteer for the Wheeling Symphony for the past 4 years and has worked on many projects with Youth Services Systems. Once at the university of her choice, she plans to major in Psychology and eventually pursue a career in Pediatric Occupational Therapy. Dunlevy was escorted by her parents, Ryan and Patty.

Juanita Garcia 

Juanita Garcia is the daughter of Ines Garcia.  Garcia serves as Linsly’s Head Prefect and is also a residential assistant in the dorms. She is a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Proud Students Against Landmines, and the Model United Nations. Garcia has participated in Volleyball, Bowling, Swimming, and Tennis throughout her time at Linsly.  She has also been a part of extracurricular opportunities such as Harvard’s Women in Business Conference, West Virginia All-state choir, Judicial Scholars Program, and her personal favorite: the opening act in the Extravaganza. Garcia plans to major in music business and minor in political science with hopes to pursue a career in law. She was escorted by her brother, Bernardo Garcia. 

Carleigh Grimm

Carleigh Grimm is the daughter of Chriszanne and Steve Grimm of St. Clairsville, Ohio. She has an older brother, Cole, who is a 2021 Linsly graduate. Grimm has attended Linsly since the seventh grade. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Grimm has been a member of the Spanish Club for four years, SADD club for two years, and Minding Your Mind and Outdoor Club for one year. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and has served as an acolyte for 7 years. She was a junior prefect and is currently a senior prefect and head of the Student Life Commitee. Grimm has enjoyed playing basketball at Linsly since seventh grade. She was part of an undefeated OVAC championship her junior season and is a four year letter winner. She will serve as a team captain this season. Grimm has also lettered her freshman and junior year in softball. Once at her university of choice, Grimm will major in sports management with a minor in business. Grimm was escorted by her parents, Steve and Chriszanne. 

Marlee Johns 

Marlee Johns is the daughter of Missy and Les Johns. Johns has gone to Linsly since 7th grade, and she is from Wellsburg, West Virginia. Johns is a member of the National Honor Society, has participated in SADD Club and now Chess and Outdoor club, and is the Co-Head of the Prefect Wellness committee. In addition to this, she has received first honors and HPL for every quarter she has been at Linsly. She has also placed 3 times in Latin translation contests and won several writing awards. Johns has done volleyball since 7th grade and played travel for 2 years, while also trying out other sports like track last year. Johns has been actively volunteering at Wheeling Hospital since the beginning of this summer and she also works in the summer months. Johns plans on studying neuroscience and hopefully going to medical school, but is currently undecided on a college. She was escorted by her parents, Missy and Les.

Sierra Kelley

Sierra Kelley is the daughter of Geri and Craig Kelley of Wheeling, WV. Her older brother, Hunter Kelley, attended Linsly and graduated last year. Kelley is a member of the French Club and was a 3-year member of the cheering squad. She is a 2-year letter winner of the cheering and OVAC competition squad, winning first place her freshman and sophomore year. She was a member of the OVAC-winning girls track program as a hurdler and earned a gold medal with her relay team. Sierra is undecided on her college section for the fall but plans to major in special education. Kelley was escorted by her parents, Geri and Craig Kelley. 

Grace Landini

Grace Landini is the daughter of Liz Hofreuter and Mark Landini of Wheeling, West Virginia. She has attended Linsly since 6th grade. Throughout that time, she has participated in softball, soccer, cross country, basketball, and track. She has also been a member of the newspaper, yearbook, SADD Club, Outdoor Club, Minding Your Mind club, and Volunteer Club. Landini has been class president since freshman year, and is currently the co-head of the Community Service Committee as a prefect. She is an active volunteer within the homeless community and works as a waitress at Later Alligator. Landini has yet to decide on her future career or where she wants to go to college. Landini was escorted by her parents, Liz and Mark.

Abigail Monk

Abigail is the daughter of Wes and Heather Monk of St. Clairsville, Ohio. Monk has been on the Linsly softball team since her freshman year. She is also captain of the Interscholastic Equestrian Association team at McCormick stables and has been a riding student under coach John McCormick for 11 years. Outside of her sports, she is a Senior Prefect and a part of the French club. Monk has volunteered for the Wheeling Symphony for the past four years as well. In her free time, Monk enjoys spending time with her friends and playing with her four year old brother, Joseph. Monk plans to attend college next fall to study business and continue her equestrian career. Monk was escorted by her parents, Wes and Heather. 

Milica Sekulovic

“Mili” Sekulovic is the daughter of Zara and Nikola Sekulovic. Sekulovic comes from Serbia, and this is her second year at Linsly. She has maintained First Honors throughout her entire career at Linsly and has participated in a number of extracurricular activities. She was part of the swimming team, bowling team, manager of the boys track team, and captain of the varsity volleyball team. Sekulovic plays volleyball for a travel team as well, the Ohio Valley Volleyball Academy.  Sekulovic also serves as a resident assistant for the boarding department and is a prefect on the Wellness Committee. Sekulovic plans to major in business administration at an undecided college. She was escorted by her friends, Cheyanne DeLong and Sharon Aristizabal.

Karianna Tavarez

Karianna Tavarez is the daughter of Karina and Blas Tavarez of Englewood, New Jersey. She started at Linsly as a freshman in 2018 and has been on several sports teams and clubs since then. Yet, some of her best memories are from her freshman and sophomore year when she played soccer. Now, she has occupied her time as a residential assistant for the past two years and is now the Head RA this year. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends on and off campus and trying as many new things as possible. Tavarez plans to major in international business and marketing and minor in criminology in college. Tavarez was escorted by her parents, Karina and Blas. 

Kailyn Wilson 

Kailyn Wilson is the daughter of John Wilson and Georgia Bennett of Wheeling, West Virginia. Wilson is a captain of the Linsly Girls soccer team and has also played for her club team, Victory Express Soccer Club, for the past 5 years. While at Linsly, she also played for the Linsly Girls basketball team. She is also a member of the Volunteer and Discipleship Clubs. Wilson has volunteered for the Wheeling Soup Kitchen and the Miracle League of Wheeling. Wilson is looking forward to her future and plans on playing soccer in college while majoring in physical therapy. Wilson was escorted by her parents, John and Georgia.
