The Linsly Junior Varsity and Varsity Golf teams completed their season last week ranking high in their final tournaments. The Varsity team competed in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference finals at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Golf Course, playing eighteen holes. The Junior Varsity team competed in the Wheeling Park High School invitational tournament at Wheeling Park, where the team played nine holes.
The Varsity team competed in the OVAC tournament in the 3A division. The boys placed third in the overall competition, following first-place team Fort Frye and second-place Barnesville. Linsly’s golfers played a great round. Freshman Adam Gill was a runner-up medalist for the tournament and was named to the All-OVAC team after shooting a 75 in the tournament.
“We had a good season,” said Coach Landini, “We are a very young team. We knew going into OVACs we would be facing two veteran teams. We look forward to next year.” The team scored as follows: Adam Gill- 75, Jose Coimbra- 83, Matt Scouvart- 85, Connor Roberts- 95, Alex Lehrke- 99. They will continue to work hard and will be back in the competition again next year.
The Junior Varsity team played in the Wheeling Park High School Invitational, otherwise known as “The Tournament of Twins.” Coach Martin said: “The JV team saw steady improvements throughout the season and came in second place at the Tournament of Twins.” The team came in second place to Wheeling Park. Linsly was broken up into two teams. For a combined score of 170, Team 1 shot as follows: Severino Smathers- 38, Brock Brewer- 42, Kyle White- 44, Luke Miller- 46, Alyssa Tomlinson- 53, Mason Williams- 58. Linsly’s second team included Brenden Moore- 51, Anthony Mixer- 53, Jackson Kessler- 58, Nico Giovengo- 61, Gianna Ferelli- 62, and Peyton Florence- 63. The second team shot a combined score of 223. Both teams played great and are looking forward to next season.
