2020 has been quite a different year compared to most, and this holiday season is no exception. What used to be a busy season packed with family and friends has changed drastically. Holding onto hope that next year we will be able to return to our normal holiday season helps get me through these hard times.
Since everyone is trying to stay safe and positive despite holiday traditions being changed or canceled due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the new challenge is finding a way to create new traditions or continue old ones safely. Personally, my family used zoom calls to stay in touch with our family over Thanksgiving and have changed our regular Christmas party into a gingerbread house competition with close family. Although these traditions are not the same, I am thankful for any chance to spend time whether virtual or in-person with family and friends.
It is important to know you are not alone right now, and I would like to share with you some of the views members of the Linsly community have on this new holiday season. Connor Roberts is grateful for the opportunity to spend time with his immediate family during the month of December, and the Roberts family has turned to new traditions such as baking holiday treats. Although the Ridenhour family has also had to cancel certain holiday get-togethers, Grace Ridenhour is thankful she is able to continue some traditions such as cutting down a Christmas tree and decorating her family’s house with fun Christmas decorations. Finally, Olivia Kiger-Camilo is looking forward to a holiday season without COVID-19, as we all are, and her family is using zoom calls to stay in touch with her extended family.
It is so important to reach out to family and friends right now even if it is virtual, and thankfully all of these families are making sure to do that as much as possible. Hopefully, this article gave you and your family more ideas on how to fully enjoy this holiday season, happy holidays!
