When Parents Step Into Their Child’s Shoes

When Parents Step Into Their Child’s Shoes

Every day, students and faculty get up at the break of dawn. They put on their uniform or dress clothes, pack their bag, and set out the door. Every school day has the same routine. But that’s not the case for one special occasion: Parents Day! Students, who are able to, get to bring along their parent(s) throughout their school day!

This day has been an annual tradition at Linsly for decades. Mr. Brubaker said Parents Day has been at Linsly since he was a student 47 years ago!  Dr. Zimmerman said one of the reasons Linsly continues to have this special day is because Parents Day is an opportunity for parents to get an idea of how their child learns, grows, and is challenged daily at The Linlsy School.

Parents enjoy accompanying their child to get a better grasp of what they get to do every day. Some alumni even get to reunite with their classmates! One parent, Sara Yanko, said her favorite part of Parents Day was seeing her son, Beau Yanko, interact with his friends.

The teachers show parents the gist of what their child is learning, and what they do on a daily basis. Some Linsly Teachers were asked what they did with on Parents Day:

Ms. Cooper, a math teacher, did a review kahoot with the students and parents– testing the parents to see if they understood their child’s math!

M. Rose, the new upper school French teacher, had students work in their notebooks by listening to, writing, and forming sentences. The parents were certainly tested on their knowledge of French!

In Mrs. Zatezalo’s AP Literature class, students made a short skit with tension and performed it to their parents. Many parents got a good laugh out of this one!

Dr. Edinger had students work on their biochem presentation, where they choose a biome and make a google slide presentation. Mainly, they were in the lab studying the various amounts of carbon in different materials. Not only that, but Parents got to see a monarch butterfly that just emerged from its chrysalis!

With that, the chaos and excitement of Parents Day concluded. It’s days like Parents Day that create memories these families will carry for a lifetime!

The Linsly Line hopes everyone had a fun time with their parents!
