As upper school students are wrapping up their classes and preparing for their final performance assessments, an 11th grade student, John Powell, shares one of his final days of this school year.
John Powell is from Peter’s Township, Pennsylvania, and is a dormer at Linsly. At Linsly, John is an impactful captain of the lacrosse team. Additionally, he enjoys spending time with friends, playing pickleball, and watching college football.
Last Wednesday, John woke up in Weiss Hall and got ready for the day at 7:30 am. From there, he made sure to check in to breakfast by 8:00 am, and enjoyed Kodiak oatmeal while talking to Nurse Kelly.
At 8:20 am, John headed to advisory period with Dr. Raja, where he enjoyed hanging out with his friends before starting the academic school day.
Shortly after, John arrived at his 7th period class, which was his study hall. He took advantage of the free time by working on his AP government final presentation.
At 9:40, John headed to advanced ceramics. The class was wrapping up their final pieces of pottery, and John finished glazing two juicers he had crafted earlier in the year.
From there, John had A-block, a perfect time to take advantage of the nice weather and enjoy some time outside. Therefore, he and his friends enjoyed playing hacky sack.
Next up, it was time for pre-calculus with Mrs. Nau at 11:20 am. Their class went over the Unit 4 test they had recently taken and also received a study guide for the final performance assessment. To prepare for the final, John received personalized assistance from Mrs. Nau as she helped him better grasp the material he wanted to perfect before his exam.
During lunch, John headed back outside to enjoy a carnival-themed meal while also playing Spikeball with his friends.
After, John had his 3rd period class, which is Literature and Composition. There, he completed his final paper, which was his college essay. Each year, juniors write an essay that can be used for their personal statement when applying to college in the coming fall.
Finally, John ended his academic day with zoology. John has chosen to present on Mallard ducks for his final, and the class had a workshop day to prepare.
At 3 pm, John headed back to the dorms to get changed and go to Sheetz to eat before his lacrosse game.
At 5:30, the long-awaited, semi-final lacrosse game began against Wheeling Park High School to compete for a spot at the state championship. John scored an impressive two goals and assisted his team in winning the game 12-5 to send them to the championship game for the 2nd year in a row.
To celebrate, John and his teammate, Evan, dined at Texas Roadhouse with their families. After dinner, John returned to the dorm and got ready for bed.
Overall, John says he had a great day and would not want to spend it anywhere else. Congratulations, John, on the win, and thank you for taking The Linsly Line along on a day in your life as a Linsly junior.
