Young Stars in the Making

Young Stars in the Making

Two middle schoolers have achieved major accomplishments this week! Claire Goddard (7th) and Brazen Smith (7th) have been competing in the Elks Hoop Shoot competition. The competition requires athletes to shoot 25 free throws, and the individual who makes the most is declared the winner. The pair has won at our school, two local district levels, and now the state level! At the recent competition, Brazen made 25/25 of his free throws, and Claire made 18/25. The pair competes against around 5–6 shooters per competition, but by counting the various kids that have failed to move on, the number is much higher. The two now move on to the regional competition in Virginia where they will be competing against kids from North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and DC. If they win, they will advance to Nationals in Chicago. Here, they shoot against 12 of the best foul shooters from different states in the US. Overall, this is a really amazing accomplishment for the aspiring, young athletes. Congratulations and good luck, Claire and Brazen!
