It’s that time of year when the weather gets cold and it starts to snow. It’s too cold to go outside and you just want to cozy up indoors with a good book and a cup of something warm, whether it be tea, coffee, or anything else. I love a good cup of hot chocolate or a nice and calming cup of mint tea; so why not do both? This is my personal favorite, peppermint hot chocolate. So let’s get into it!
Here are 2 versions of my peppermint hot chocolate, a simple and quick version and an elevated version for when just want to feel good about yourself. Both are great, but the elevated version is creamier and has a smoother texture and a bolder body that just warms you right up after a long day!
Simple version Ingredients:
1 pack of hot chocolate mix from any brand (I love the Starbucks ones)
½ tsp of peppermint extract
8 ounces or 1 cup of any milk (dairy or plant-based)
Peppermint stir stick or candy cane
Whipped cream (I used cool whip)
How to make it:
- Pour the milk and the peppermint extract into a microwave-safe cup or mug and warm on high for 2 minutes
- Pour in the hot chocolate and mix
- Top it with whipped cream and a stir stick or candy cane
- Enjoy!
Elevated Version Ingredients:
8 ounces or 1 cup of any milk (dairy or plant-based)
2 ounces or ¼ cup of heavy cream
0 to 3 tablespoons of sugar (depending on how sweet you like it, I used 0)
A pinch of salt
¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ cup of finely chopped semi-sweet chocolate (I used Lindt)
½ teaspoon of peppermint extract
Whipped cream (I used cool whip)
Crushed peppermint
Peppermint stir stick or candy cane (I used a candy cane)
How to Make it:
- Add the milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, salt, and peppermint extract to a small saucepan
- Heat on medium until bubbles start to form
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the chocolate until it forms a slightly thicker and glossier consistency
- Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream, crushed peppermint and a candy cane
- Enjoy!
Linsly hopes that everyone tries and enjoys this recipe. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
