Background
Originally from the small town of Sylvania, Alabama, Mr. Morgan graduated from Plainview High School in 2008. Morgan states, “Upon graduation, I received a band scholarship to The University of North Alabama where I had the opportunity to perform in many different ensembles, travel to different states, and attain my bachelors degree in instrumental music and minor in trumpet performance.” Due to his excellence, Morgan had the opportunity to perform at the Bands of America Grand Nationals three separate times, located once at the former Georgia Dome and twice at the Indianapolis Colts stadium. Morgan believes one of his biggest accomplishments has been winning the 1A Alabama Marching Band State Championship in 2021.
Experiencing and Enhancing Linsly
Morgan’s teaching experience began six years ago. His expertise ranges all the way from elementary music to high school concert and pep-band. Morgan’s experience at Linsly thus far has been unlike any other school he has taught at. He states:
“My favorite thing about Linsly is how all the faculty work together for a common goal. It is wonderful to have such a supportive staff.”
One of these goals includes Linsly’s annual Extravaganza. For Extravaganza, Morgan will be helping in a variety of ways such as directing the band, helping mix music for different acts, and learning the cues for each song. Morgan explains that he is “approaching [his first] Extravaganza with an open mind and willingness to learn, teach, and experience something different.” Beyond Extravaganza, Mr. Morgan has wonderful goals set to enhance Linsly’s band programs. Morgan is persistent in not only sparking students’ interest in band, but more specifically, rebuilding Linsly’s marching band program. Morgan states, “With time and students, [Linsly] will have a marching band.”
Beyond the Classroom
Mr. Morgan has a large extended family consisting of two sisters, two brothers, two nephews, and three nieces. He recently got engaged to Ms. Naomi Loucks on New Year’s Eve and they plan to get married in 2024. Some of Mr. Morgan’s favorite hobbies include: fishing, kayaking, hiking, and disc golf. Fun fact, Mr. Morgan is a huge Alabama football fan!
Linsly cannot wait to see the wonderful impact that Mr. Morgan will continue to have on its students and community as a whole. We are excited to have you as a part of our family!
